BEACON

Business Engineering Architecture Construction Object Nexus

A fresh approach to Open Technology Support Infrastructures for Business and Industrial Applications

When operating in an Open environment, individual system and process designers regularly discover the need for access to a Uniform method of Identifying and Labelling data units or the transaction attributes of Business processes. This enables interoperation between different business processes to be achieved without the need to first agree with others on a common understanding, i.e. to enable operation in an Open Environment.

One section of BEACON, the Business Data Register (BDR) is the first and, so far, the only successful solution to this problem. It appears to have solved most of the problems experienced with the alternative approaches such as ISO's BSR (Basic Semantic Repository).

BEACON is based on Object Technology and thus represents the "state of the art" thinking in realising Open processes. It is therefore well placed to provide the Technological Support infrastructures that will be required for the emerging "new-age" technologies.

BEACON is described as an "Object Nexus" because the attributes of the various components of the Business and Industrial processes are linked and indexed forming a bond or nexus. BEACON is an acronym made from Business Engineering Architecture Construction Object Nexus. Its scope as a new-age Technologies Support infrastructure covers not only business and business systems, but a whole range of industrial uses. BEACON opens access to an Open environment for a wide range of existing applications many new new application areas which are being identified continually.

It is hoped many people throughout the world striving to find better solutions will discover in the BEACON BDR the key to success in their fields of interest. Comments by such people on their experiences in applying the facilities of BEACON in support of their innovation are welcome.

BEACON has been on line since early 1997 and was opened for public exploration and comment in April, 1997. A web interface to BEACON's Business Data Register is available for examination. The guest password for access is guest@user. Why not spend a few minutes exploring and see if it will help to solve YOUR problem
